To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete\u201d Buckminster Fuller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visions for transitions to <strong>sustainable societies<\/strong> are needed, based upon the reconception of entire life-styles that are human scale, place-based, but <strong>globally connected<\/strong> in their exchange of technology, information and culture. These visions are based upon communities that are in symbiotic relationships to the<strong> ecosystems<\/strong> within which they are embedded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Transition Design acknowledges<\/strong> that we are living in<strong> \u2018transitional times\u2019<\/strong>. It takes as its central premise the <strong>need for societal transitions to more sustainable futures<\/strong> and argues that design has a key role to play in these transitions. The transition to sustainable futures calls for <strong>new ways of designing<\/strong> that are based upon a deep understanding of how t<strong>o design for change and transition<\/strong> within complex systems.
